Thanos Should Have Used the Positivity Gauntlet

This weekly post highlights positivity in the martial arts from around the world. Unfortunately, it is far too easy to find negative stories on the internet. Positive ones, however, are harder to find. Let’s recognize and celebrate those martial artists and schools who are doing good things in their communities, as well as, making great accomplishments.

Houston, Texas, USA

Longevity in many things is usually considered a good thing. Whether it is in business, entertainment, or sports, it implies a good work ethic and sound decision-making. In short, you must be doing some things right. This is no different in the martial arts. The story here focuses on the longevity of Grandmaster Kim Soo’s karate school. His school has been open for 50 years in his adopted hometown. I would say that he has definitely been doing something right!

China/USA

For all of those martial arts movie buffs out there, boy are you in for a treat! Donnie Yen has recently announced that Ip Man 4 is now in production. As it was alluded to at the end of the third movie, this movie will focus on Ip Man teaching Bruce Lee. It will be interesting to see how they handle all of this for sure. The creative team from the first three movies is largely intact, so that should bode well for keeping the quality high. Then, out of nowhere, yesterday Scott Adkins let it out that he has been cast in the movie! Very exciting indeed!

Beijing, China

All martial arts have roots in one culture or another. There are practitioners that have spent years tracing back lineages and writing books about the history of these arts. Some practitioners even leave their place of birth and immerse themselves in the home culture of the art they practice. For the women’s Kung Fu team from Kabul, they got to have a similar experience. The recently visited China and got to experience their art in it’s homeland.

Cancer is something that has affected so many people. Regardless of whether it is you, or a loved one, most people have a story they could tell you about cancer. While the treatments for cancer have improved drastically, we still have so much farther to go before it is no longer a life or death concern. Thankfully we have great martial arts studios and organizations doing their part to help raise funding for cancer research. Krav Maga New York is one such studio. They are hosting the “Gold Games” where you can donate money to spar a Krav instructor or challenge them to a push-up competition. Read on for more!
