Now Publishing Press Releases

In an effort to continue to grow and serve the martial arts community, Martial Journal will now accept and publish press releases of a martial arts nature. In order for a press release to be published it must follow the correct format, be relevant, and be legitimate.

Press releases are not advertising, and should avoid the use of embellishment and subjective statements whenever possible. A press release titled “MartialArtsSchoolName Announces Rank Promotions” is appropriate. However, “MartialArtsSchoolName Proudly Celebrates the Grand Achievement of Six Students” is definitely not.

The key is in the subjective vs objective nature. In the first title, these are all objective determinations – the name of the school, the fact that the school is making an announcement, and the fact the school is announcing the rank promotion. The rest of the press release must follow the same format.

Does this make for dry writing? YES. If you want something fancier you can write a standard article for Martial Journal – but it needs to follow the standard rules, and be relevant to the wider martial arts community.

The question, then, is why we’d do this? As this website has grown, the availability of press release postings may help some schools gain legitimacy in their area. By way of us having done what we do for so long, we have gained some credibility, and we simply seek to share that with others. It may also provide an interesting historical record in the future.

Once submitted, we do not contact when a press release has been accepted or rejected.

If you would like to submit a press release, please use this submission form.
