The Final Round: There Can Be Only One!

So here we are. You, the readers, have read and voted us to this point. This is the last hurrah. The end of the line. Something, something, something. However, before we preview the last matchup, let us recap the results of the Final Four round of voting!

#3 Ip Man vs. #7 Fearless

As Ezequiel Caballero so perfectly noted in his preview article, this was the matchup between the father of Wing Chun and the father of Jing Wu. These were both great movies in their own ways, made a big splash when they were released, and are still loved to this day. I wasn’t sure which one would get the nod from the voters, but it was a solid victory for Grandmaster Ip Man.

Winner: #3 Ip Man

#1 Enter the Dragon vs. #12 Seven Samurai

In Denise Vasel’s matchup preview article, she accurately stated that this was a matchup between two classics. On one hand, you have the Seven Samurai with its ground-breaking quality and the incalculable influence it left on future filmmakers. On the other, you have Enter the Dragon with the way it changed martial arts and martial arts movies forever. You spoke with your votes and gave a solid, but not overwhelming, victory to the Bruce Lee classic.

Winner: #1 Enter the Dragon

Breaking Down The Final Matchup: The Master vs. The Student!

When you consider these two movies, I don’t know how to look at this any differently. Maybe there is some kind of poetic chicken and egg enigma here. We literally would not know about Bruce Lee without his early education from Grandmaster Ip Man and his Wing Chun school. Conversely, we would likely not know the late Grandmaster if it were not for his student hitting it big with his movies and his approach to martial arts.

There is nothing that I can say about these two movies that have not already been said before. But it is undeniable that we literally could not have, or vote on, either of these two movies without the efforts of both The Master and The Student.

What do you think? Which movie is the better one in your opinion? Let us know in the comments section below!
